A grand old dame of a pub in the centre of Herne Hill and opposite Brockwell Park. In the front, we are large, light and airy around our central island bar (adults only). Out the back, we have our large decked garden, family friendly areas and a dedicated kids playroom.
To eat, we serve traditional pub food with a modern approach. We go for product quality over marketing for our draught and bottled beer collection and have a range of rotating ales, including those brewed in our own micro-brewery.
Dog friendly, date-night friendly, spot of food and then drinks for a celebration friendly, bring your folks for lunch when they are visiting friendly. You get the idea - we are quite friendly.

Some pubs have water features. Ours just happens to turn the water into beer.
When we first opened making beer, there were five breweries in London, and only one other Brewpub. Since then the bandwagon has gotten pretty crowded. We might not be the biggest, or have won any brewing competitions (because we haven't entered any), but what we can say, is that we almost certainly have more fun than anybody else doing it.
Peter Haydon is the man behind the Brewery. An author, pub historian, and beer sommelier, he has brought new levels of knowledge, care and hard graft to the proceedings, meaning we are now selling more of the stuff than we ever have before.

A hoppy, fruity golden ale
with a distinctly citrus nose from English grown Cascade.
A dark and fruity best bitter
made using the finest English malted barley, a splash of crystal
malt and English Phoenix.
A sackful of wheat malty
and a twist of orange peel essence marks this cloudy beer out from
the ordinary.

With an award as one of the best family friendly eateries in South London, we have everything you need for a day out with the kids. Our huge dedicated playroom is filled with toys as well as two large flat screen TVs to keep the little ones occupied and let them make new friends. It opens out onto our large garden and is just opposite the family friendly area of the pub. The room is totally secure with one entrance, and a wall of glass so you can sit in the garden and keep an eye on the kids at play.
We have a range of kids meals and treats, friendly staff and have never knowingly run out of high chairs.
Currently on Wednesday and Friday mornings we're putting away the toys and welcoming Bea's Baby Bop to the kids room. For more info visit beasbabybop.com. Drop in and join the singing and dancing with your little ones, after all that you'll be ready for a drink!
Our loyalty card for local mums, "Mum's The Word" gives you a 25% discount on food for you and the kids Monday to Friday at The Florence and all our other pubs in South East London.

Go to mumstheword.co.uk or pop in, to collect your card to get access to this as well as other offers for you, the little ones or the other half.

We have a selection of sanis, small dishes, main courses, desserts and of course our kids menu. With a core of updated pub classics such as battered haddock, 21 day aged steak burger and macaroni cheese and plenty of our own creations.
Saturday mornings we add brunch to the offering, and are always packed out for our Sunday roasts, so we definitely recommend booking in advance. We always keep some tables back, so that on the day these go to the early birds or to those who don't mind waiting until a table pops up.

We're very proud of our selection of beers, wines and spirits, particularly our microbrewery, so feel free to ask any of our staff for their recommendation from our home brewed ales. Our other draught selection includes local favourites such as Meantime London Lager and Pale Ale as well as premium contintental products such as Vedett Blonde.
We have chosen some of our favourites from around the world for our bottled beers and wines. Ask the staff for something different and you can almost certainly get a gem you wouldn't have thought of ordering.
